Timber Creek High School
Sarah Longino, Department Chair for Science, Timber Creek High School, Orange County, Florida

"We find it particularly useful that the presentations are linked directly to our state science benchmarks."
Sarah Longino is the Department Chair for Science at Timber Creek High School in Orange County, Florida. Boardworks Science products for High School and Advanced Placement courses have proved extremely popular among all the staff using them in her department.
The teachers in the science department love the fact that Boardworks resources cover their curriculum so well. "We find it particularly useful that the presentations are linked directly to our state science benchmarks," says Sarah. "The High School Science products for Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science are good for Regular and Honors, pitched at a level the students can grasp. If we need content with a higher level of interest we can insert slides into presentations from the AP Science resources, which also cover Environmental Science."
They have found that the resources save them a huge amount of planning time. "Teachers struggle making their own PowerPoints, and the Boardworks resources are a big step up from text books and home-made PowerPoints," says Sarah. But although the resources are ready-prepared, teachers have the freedom to customize and edit them. "We like the simple format," says Sarah. "It is useful to be able to edit and to add to the presentations. For example, I have added my own slides to a Boardworks lesson on Aerobic Respiration, referencing Glycolysis, Kreb's Cycle and Electron Transport/Chemiosmosis."
The science department at Timber Creek High School is extremely impressed with the interactivity in their Boardworks resources, and love the response the activities get from their students. "The flash slides with animations showing virtual experiments are much more visual and entertaining than slides teachers can create themselves, also saving them a lot of time. The students also have fun using the interactive slides."
